Swimming on RAGBRAI

One of the many pleasures I discovered last year on my inaugural RAGBRAI was the abundance of community pools along the route. Many had free or low-cost ($2) swimming for riders and a quick dip in the cool water broke up the day well. Cycling shorts (and a sports bra I hear) make for a great swimsuit and they dry pretty quickly when you get back on your bike. For those of you who may be interested in going for a dip this year, I've put together a map of each of the pools I could find close to the route. I know I'll be up for a swim when I join Team CoeBRAI on Friday, July 25th.

Thanks for the tips Tom!!! I will be sure to print it off and take it along. I have been wondering where I was going to find pools without you it wont be the same. Are you going to be able to make it down to North Liberty?

I will be joining Team CoeBRAI in North Liberty for the final two days. Are you all trained and ready to go?

Yeah I was telling andrew today how disappointed I am that you aren't riding this year. This is a great Tuesday morning discovery. Well I am almost all ready to go in the sense of being packed. As far as being trained...no sadly we didnt get the rides in this year that we should have or got in last year. I think so far this year I have only logged about 130 miles on my bike and I had over 300 last year. The Cedar Rapids rides and random weekend rides with the team help but when your bike resides on the fourth floor of your apartment building it makes it a little bit more difficult to plan a ride. Well it probably just boils down to more being lazy than anything but you get the point. I am pretty excited although its finally started to get HOT in chicago which I am sort of ticked off about because its been a pretty cool/mild summer and the week of RAGBRAI is surely going to be the hottest of the year. The week I get to sleep in a tent!!!

Have you gotten married? I knew the wedding was this summer but wasnt sure when this summer it was.

I'm excited to join you guys for the last two days. Save a leg on Friday or Saturday for me. I did get married (thanks for remembering) on June 14th and am living in Mt Vernon now.
So, I hope you have a larger tent or are going without that huge mattress. I don't think you and Andrew can fit in that tent like you had it set up last year. And yes, it looks to be scorching next week.

We did purchase a bigger tent! And the huge air mattress is coming too. I dont want to spend any more money on camping type stuff when i am not an avid camper - outside of RAGBRAI I stay in hotels. I guess heat beats rain any day of RAGBRAI although I did buy a waterproof jacket this year - not really to stay dry but last year when it rained it was kind of chilly. I dont like chilly.

I'm sure glad I don't have to swim across Iowa. That would be tough.
